As Pakistan celebrated its 77th Independence Day, the Pakistan Cricket Board released a video celebrating its cricketing history since they gained Independence. The video covered various iconic moments, such as their 1992 World Cup victory, 2009 T20 World Cup victory, 2017 Champions Trophy victory and how they won the Asia Cup back to back in 2012 and 2014.
But fans were unhappy with the way they handled a very important figure in Pakistan’s cricket history not being mentioned even once. That man being 1992 World Cup winning captain, Imran Khan. Imran Khan is currently jailed due to his role in the Al-Qadir Trust case. Imran Khan was also the Prime Minister of Pakistan, being elected in 2018 but being removed from the post in 2022. He is the first Pakistani Prime Minister to have been removed through a no-confidence motion. He was previously arrested under anti-terror laws in May. Currently he is serving a 3 year sentence for corruption.
Fans were unhappy with the way PCB didn’t include the Pakistani legend. They spammed pictures of him holding the World Cup trophy and shamed the PCB for not keeping cricket over politics.
