Wasim Jaffer takes part in the cricketing discussion in humorous ways, either with hilarious comments or with memes. The much-awaited 2023 Ashes is underway and the host, England, has already displayed their aggressive brand of cricket by posting a massive 393/8d on Day 1.

Though Ben Stokes and his team were praised for their ‘Bazball’ approach even in front of the newly crowned World Test Championship winners Australia, the Edgbaston pitch in Birmingham where the first Test is being played was exposed. Many fans called the pitch a ‘highway’ which suggested it was a batter-friendly flat pitch.

Jaffer did not let go of this opportunity to take a sly dig at England for preparing a “highway” pitch. He posted an edited image of the pitch with the caption: “Closer look at the Edgbaston pitch #Ashes23.”

Talking about the first Test, England skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bat first. With the help of Joe Root’s unbeaten 118, Jonny Bairstow’s 78, Zak Crawley’s 61, and Ollie Pope’s 31, England posted 393/8 and declared the innings inviting criticism as well as praise for the bold move.

Meanwhile, Joe Root slammed his first century in the Ashes since 2015 and also brought up his 30th Test century. It’s a lot astonishing as before 2021, with just 17 centuries, he was at the bottom of the ‘Fab Four’ comprising of him, Virat Kohli (27), Steve Smith (26), and Kane Williamson (26).

But from 2021, Root would go on to score a massive 3,299 runs at an average of 58.91. He slammed 13 centuries and nine half-centuries in 62 innings, with the best of 228 from the 2021 season.
