Shubman Gill has become an indispensable part of the Indian team in all three formats of the game. Now it’s difficult to imagine a Team India squad for a big tournament without Gill. But broadcaster Star Sports, while announcing the squad for the upcoming 2023 Asia Cup, did not include Gill in the 17-member squad which created an uproar on social media seconds after the announcement.
After Star Sports’ error, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) finally announced the squad and Indian fans heaved a sign of relief after finding Gill’s name on the list. This prompted the fans to come up with strong reactions as well as hilarious memes.
Former India player Wasim Jaffer did not miss the opportunity as he too joined the bangwagon and posted a meme. In the meme, the first picture is of a fish, and the second picture is the close-up of the first one where the fish’s “gill” is visible.
