Former India batter Wasim Jaffer has slammed the Indian selectors for the squads chosen for the West Indies tour. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Test and ODI squads for the Tour of West Indies and with it, brought in various surprises for everyone.

India’s constant number 3 in Test, Cheteshwar Pujara was dropped from the Test squad while Ajinkya Rahane was promoted to Vice-Captain. Players like Ruturaj Gaikwad have been given another go and the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Mukesh Kumar have earned their maiden Test call-ups.

Just like Sunil Gavaskar expressed his concerns about the way the selection process has been carried out, Wasim Jaffer took to Twitter to pen down his questions about India’s squad and the names that are included.

Wasim Jaffer tweeted his concerns about the squad. He questioned why four openers were picked in the Test squad while someone like Sarfaraz Khan who is a skillful middle-order batter, was excluded yet again despite his consistency in domestic cricket.

The former Indian cricketer also asked why Ruturaj Gaikwad was given another go despite Abhimanyu Easwaran and Priyank Panchal’s constant hard work in Ranji Trophy and for India ‘A’. He wonders if Ruturaj ‘jumped the queue’ because of his IPL performances.

Another concern was Mohammed Shami being given more time off despite good bowling performances. He believes it’s best for Shami to play as consistently as he can for that is what will help him maintain his shape and rhythm.

There continues to be turbulence in the Indian set-up when it comes to picking the right squad, fans will hope that the selected players can shine through and get India back on track. With the ODI World Cup coming up later this year, Team India will look to stabilize a perfect squad for the mega tournament and pick out its star performers.
