With Abdullah Shafique 3 catches at first slip in the past 2 matches, Agha Salman was promoted to that position for the third Test in Sydney. Although he did not get a single edge into his hands during the entire Test, there was one time it  went to first slip and it resulted in a drop.

During Australia’s 1st innings, Salman went to the restroom. In his place, debutant Saim Ayub was placed at 1st slip. When Aamer Jamal was bowling, he managed to get an edge off David Warner which flew to Ayub at first slip. He unfortunately dropped it, giving the opener another life.

In a press conference, Salman revealed the reason he wasn’t on the field when Ayub dropped the catch. He had left the field for a “pee-break” and when he returned, he saw the drop. He immediately knew he was in trouble.

Josh Hazlewood gives Australia upper hand in final Test

Australia were bowled out for 299 runs thanks to a brilliant 6-wicket-haul by Aamer Jamal. The visitors had a lead of 14 runs and now had to capitalize on their bowling performance. Unfortunately Josh Hazlewood had a different plan.

Within 26 overs, Pakistan lost 7 of their wickets, out of which 4 were Hazlewood’s. Mitchel Starc started the proceeding by bowling his classic inswinger to Abdullah Shafique in the first over. Hazlewood got captain Shan Masood in the next over.

Babar Azam and Ayub attempted to rebuild the innings but Ayub got out after getting trapped in front of the stumps by Nathan Lyon. From 58-2, Pakistan finished the day with 68-7. In the 24th over, Hazlewood picked up 3 wickets in one over, getting Saud Shakeel, Sajid Khan and Agha Salman. The batters in the middle are Mohammad Rizwan and Jamal, who were the highest run scorers in the previous innings.
