Cricket fans in India were eagerly waiting to see Afghanistan face India in the World Cup. The two sides are locking horns at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Wednesday (October 11) and it was for the first time since the incident during the Indian Premier League (IPL), that Naveen-ul-Haq faced Virat Kohli.

In the IPL match between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) this year, an on-field sledging incident took an ugly turn and continued after the match, including on social media. The parties involved in the altercation were Kohli, Naveen, Kyle Mayers, and Gautam Gambhir.

On social media, they took an indirect dig at each other. Since that fight, Naveen had to face the wrath of the Indian fans, especially die-hard Kohli fans who did not miss the chance to irritate the Afghan pacer with ‘Kohli, Kohli’ chants.

And while Naveen was not part of Afghanistan’s squad for the 2023 Asia Cup, he was included in the World Cup squad and fans waited for their encounter against India. And during the match, when it was time for Naveen to come to bat, he came amid a huge roar of ‘Kohli, Kohli’ chants. The videos surfaced on the internet and instantly went viral. And now, the watchers of the game are waiting to see Naveen bowl to Kohli during India’s run chase.

Afghanistan need to defend 273 to win the match against India

With the help of two fifties, Afghanistan posted 272/8 in their 50 overs. Hashmatullah Shahidi top-scored with his 88-ball 80 runs, while Azmatullah Omarzai scored 62 runs from 69 balls.

Though Afghanistan had a decent start while electing to bat first, regular wickets tethered them until Shahidi and Omarzai shouldered the responsibility to steady their ship for a while.

The target looks easier for India and if they win, it will be their second victory in the group-stage match. In their previous match, they snatched the win from Australia by six wickets.
