Batters other than Babar Azam produced lackluster performances in the first three T20Is against New Zealand. In all these matches, he scored his fifties but they went in vain because he did not get help from other batters, as a result of which the visitors lost the three matches.

During the third match in Dunedin on Wednesday (January 17), a six from Babar’s bat hit a spectator near the boundary ropes. This happened when Matt Henry was bowling in the 13th over of Pakistan’s run chase.

The six off Babar’s bat was his lone maximum in his entire innings. The fan, who attempted a catch got hit by the ball, and he fell awkwardly on the ground. Another fan then completed the catch. As Babar kept looking at the ball and saw what happened at the end, he had a concerned look on his face.

Shaheen Afridi praises Babar Azam after losing T20I series

Pakistan lost the five-match T20I series 0-3 after losing the third T20I by 45 runs. This was Shaheen Afridi’s first series defeat as captain of the T20I team. After the match, Afridi praised Babar Azam and expressed his concern about his inability to finish the match due to the lack of support.

I had also said earlier that Babar was not out of form. We cannot judge him based on a few innings. He has played three fine innings in three matches in the series.
Afridi said at the post-match press conference

He added:

He could not finish the matches in our favor. He needed someone at the other end to take the innings deeper. If there was another batter at the other end with Babar, we could have finished the game in our favor.

Babar scored 57 in the first match, then 66, and 58 in the second and third matches. The fourth T20I is on January 11th, while the last match will be played on January 21.
