Bizzare moment in cricket as bails mysteriously falls off in BBL

During a match in the Big Bash League between Melbourne Renegades and Brisbane Heat, the former’s batter Nic Maddinson walked for a hit wicket dismissal. But the replays showed the bails had knocked off on their own and Maddinson didn’t trod the stumps.

The incident happened in the ninth over when Maddinson was on 42 from 25 balls. Brisbane’s Mark Steketee delivered a short ball and Maddinson pulled it toward the deep and sent it off for a run. But he started walking toward the pavilion after seeing that the Zing bails had lightened up and the stumps were shattered.

When the umpires had gone for upstairs for the review, it was very clear that the bails had fallen off on their own. “Oh what’s happened there?” said Ian Smith on commentary. “What has happened there? What’s it come off? What’s going on here? The bail’s just fallen off.” One can understand, the bails must have fallen off due to wind.

Brisbane Heat skipper Jimmy Peirson won the toss and opted to bowl first. After the bizarre incident, Maddinson went on to score 87 from 49 balls before Matthew Kuhnemann dismissed him in the 18th over. Andre Russell also scored 35 runs from 28 balls, while Sam Harper scored 21 from 15 balls.

Maddinson’s knock helped his team put on 166/7 in their 20 overs. Kuhnemann was the most successful bowler for Brisbane with his three scalps.

During Brisbane’s chase, Akeal Hosein drew first flood by dismissing Max Byrant for a duck in the first over. He then sent the other opener, Josh Brown in the third over.

Skipper Peirson scored the most runs for his team with his 48 off 30 balls. Colin Munro scored 35 runs from 30 balls, while Ross Whiteley scored a quick 28 off 18 balls in the last overs. But these runs were not enough to chase the total as they ended up scoring 144/6 in their 20 overs, and fell short of 22 runs to win it.
