WATCH: Crowd chants ‘Kohli Kohli’ in Gautam Gambhir’s face, throws nuts and bolts during SRH vs LSG match
As the crowds got involved in this ugly banter with LSG, Heinrich Klaasen did not look so pleased with the behaviour as he criticized them.
The on-field spat between Virat Kohli and Naveen Ul Haq and then Gautam Gambhir has ignited a new sense of rivalry where crowds are also getting involved. The same was seen during a match between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Saturday. As the two teams locked horns, the home crowd (Hyderabad) started chanting Virat Kohli’s name in LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir’s face.
The incident took place in the 19th over of the SRH innings when the TV umpire overturned a no-ball call made by the on-field umpire. Despite the replays showing that the ball was a tad above waist height, the TV umpire overturned the on-field decision. This left the home crowd and the players annoyed.
Both Abdul Samad and Henrich Klaasen went to the umpires to express their displeasure. Meanwhile, the fans reportedly threw nuts and bolts at the LSG dugout and also chanted Kohli’s name in Gambhir’s face. The video of the same went viral on social media.
Notably, this is not the first instance of the crowd teasing Gambhir by chanting Kohli’s name. Earlier, when LSG visited Chennai to play against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the crowd chanted Kohli’s name to irritate Gambhir. And the LSG mentor even looked disappointed.
Heinrich Klaasen not so pleased with crowd behaviour
As the crowds got involved in this ugly banter with LSG, Heinrich Klaasen did not look so pleased with the behaviour as he criticized them. Klaasen also called out the TV umpire for his decision to overturn the no-ball call. “Disappointed of the crowd to be honest, that’s not what you want. That also broke the momentum, not great umpiring either,” said Klaasen.
