After a power-packed show in the three-match T20Is against Sri Lanka, Indian women locked-horns with the same team in the same style. In the series opener, Harmanpreet Kaur’s team chased down 171 comfortable in the series opener and are looking dominant in the second ODI as well.
India had won the toss and opted to ball first. Sri Lankans found had a poor start when they had lost three wickets in just 6.1 overs with the score read just 11.
Not many Indian bowlers had to attack because it was Renuka Singh who single-handedly destroyed Sri Lanka’s top-order batswomen. First she dismissed Hasini Parera (0 off 4) in the fourth ball of the match. Then Vishmi Gunaratne had to walk back after scoring three runs off 14 balls in the 4.4 over. In Lankan’s third dismissal, India’s right-arm medium pacer Meghna Singh also joined the party and dismissed captain Chamari Athapaththu who had scored 27 runs off 45 balls in the 16th over.
Deepti Sharma’s brilliant effort goes in vain
Meghna had dismissed the skipper but before that she would have dismissed her a lot before, in the second over. Fielder Deepti Sharma at slips pulled-off a brilliant one-handed off the fifth delivery of the second over. But the third umpire called it not-out. Meghna had bowled a dipping low full-toss, which Athapaththu tried to drive it but got an outside edge.
