[Watch] – Rovman Powell’s amazing fielding saves his team 5 runs against Punjab Kings
Rovman Powell
Delhi Capitals defeated the Punjab Kings last night as they moved closer to qualifying for the play-offs of the IPL this season. However, things might have been different had it not been for Rovman Powell’s superb fielding effort towards the tail end of the game. In the 18th over of the game, the equation for Punjab read 39 off 18. A not so difficult target considering there was a settled and in-form Jitesh Sharma still batting.
However, in the first ball of the over, Shardul bowled a slot ball and Jitesh pounced on it, hitting towards long on. Rovman Powell made up all the ground and in the commentators words, “Michael Jordan-esque hangtime from Powell in the air to save 5 runs for his team!” The 28 year old jumped as high as he could in the air, grabbed the ball and inches away from the boundary, he threw it inside as he fell outside the ropes. Jitesh and Rahul Chahar who were convinced the ball had cleared, could only complete one run. Thus, Rovman Powell managed to save 5 for his team.

The superb fielding display by Rovman Powell became a turning point for Delhi Capitals. Under pressure to hit a boundary, Jitesh Sharma tried again but could only find David Warner who also took a superb catch to dismiss the batsman. Eventually, Delhi went on to win the game by 17 runs and move 4th in the points table.
Punjab’s 7th loss of the season now means that their qualification depends on RCB and Delhi’s fate. Both teams must lose and Punjab must also have a better Net Run Rate than them if they are to qualify. On the other hand, with a better NRR than RCB, Delhi are almost confirmed 4th place of they win their last game against the Mumbai Indians.
