England wasn’t able to produce a different result in the fifth Test against India. They were easily hammered by the hosts by an innings and 64 runs on Saturday (March 9) at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala.

A few moments before losing the match, a hilarious incident took place involving England’s Shoaib Bashir. In the 46th over, Ravindra Jadeja‘s delivery gave India their ninth wicket as the ball went past Bashir to shatter the stumps.

Bashir was unaware that he was clean-bowled. As the umpire raised his finger, the 20-year-old wasted no time to take DRS.

However, his batting partner Joe Root had to tell him that there was no use taking the DRS as he was clean bowled. The incident also left the senior batter in splits.

After Bashir’s dismissal, Kuldeep Yadav sent Root packing to wrap up the Test in India’s favor. India lost just the first Test and went on to emerge victorious in the next four Tests to win the series 4-1.

Shoaib Bashir created history in the fifth Test

On Day 3, Shoaib Bashir also created history when he got rid of five batters in the fifth Test. He became the first English cricketer to take two fifers before turning 21.

After making his debut in the second Test in Visakhapatnam, Bashir registered his first fifer in the Test in the fourth match in Ranchi. He also became the second youngest bowler from England to pick up a fifer. Rehan Ahmed tops the list as he bagged his five-wicket haul at the age of 18.

Bashir joined Ahmed, Bill Voce, and James Anderson when he scalped a fifer before turning 21. But he surpassed them after registering his second five-wicket haul in the format.
