Mahendra Singh Dhoni is nothing less than a celebrity in India. Even celebrity would not define the stature Dhoni has achieved in these all years. Even after hanging his boots at the international level, Dhoni continues to receive immense love from his fans. As the former India skipper now only features in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Dhoni’s fans are ready to do anything for even a glimpse of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain. 

An example of the same was seen when a fan invaded the pitch and ran to Dhoni while CSK were training ahead of their match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The guy came running in and shook hands with Dhoni. After that, he also bowed down and touched the CSK captain’s feet. 

Notably, Dhoni has been the face of the Chennai-based franchise ever since the inception of the Indian T20 league. The Ranchi-born cricketer has made Chennai his second home and has a massive fanbase in the southern part of the country. Dhoni leading CSK to four IPL titles is one of the reasons for this massive fan following. But it is also worth mentioning that Dhoni’s fan following is not just limited to Chennai or even India, it goes beyond boundaries. The same was proved when a fan was spotted with a placard during RCB vs CSK game. “Flew from New York to Namma Bengaluru for Dhoni,” read the placard.

Coming to the RCB vs CSK game, Faf du Plessis won the toss and decided to bowl first. While RCB played the same team, CSK made one forced change. Matheesha Pathirana replaced the injured Sisanda Magala in the squad. Notably, Magala was ruled out due to a split webbing that he sustained during the match against Rajasthan Royals. 

Magala is among many names that have been injured and have been missing games for CSK. Deepak Chahar and Ben Stokes are the other two key players who have been ruled out for a few weeks with injuries.
