Pakistan wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan was his side’s second-highest run-scorer after Babar Azam against India on Saturday (October 14). He missed his fifty-by-one run due to Jasprit Bumrah‘s delivery and as he was going towards the pavilion after his dismissal, a section of fans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad started chanting “Jai Shree Ram”.
This wasn’t the first case of Indian fans’ hostile treatment of the Pakistani players. During the toss, their skipper Babar Azam was booed by some sections of the Ahmedabad fans.
Videos of fans chanting abuse and trolling Babar with some demeaning words also went viral. While Pakistani fans are bound to criticize such actions, such videos invited mixed reactions from Indian fans.

Social media was filled with mixed reactions after watching a video of fans chanting “Jai Shree Ram” in front of Mohali Rizwan
A section of Indian fans pulled the legs of Pakistani players and supporters to enjoy the moment. Some fans dug out the 2017 Champions Trophy video between India and Pakistan to justify Ahmedabad fans’ actions. In that video, the Pakistani fans could be seen trolling the Indian players. A fan said that though there is no harm in chanting “Jai Shree Ram”, one should not chant it to mock someone.

Other fans slammed those fans for their misbehavior, pointing out that such behavior from those fans doesn’t show the actual culture of India and its treatment of guests. One user said how the country has changed a lot by citing Pakistan’s dramatic victory against India in the 1999 Test match with the rival team receiving a standing ovation from the Chennai crowd. Fans mostly apologized to Pakistani players and Rizwan for such treatment from some sections of the Indian fans.
