Sunil Gavaskar felicitated Cheteshwar Pujara
India’s veteran Test batsman Cheteshwar Pujara became the 13th Indian batsman to play the 100th Test match for India. He reached this landmark during the second Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy on Friday (February 17) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
The legendary Sunil Gavaskar felicitated Pujara, presenting him with his 100th Test cap along with a speech. Pujara’s father Arvind, wife Puja, and daughter Aditi also attended the ceremony. “When we are playing as kids growing up, whether we are playing at home, down the streets and maidans, we all dream of playing for India,” Gavaskar told Pujara in the felicitation ceremony.
“You’ve taken the blows, you got up, and you made bowlers earn you wicket. Every single run you scored is a big plus for India. You’ve been a role model for what hard work, self-belief, and dreams can do. Welcome to the 100th Test club, and I wish and pray you that you become the first Indian to score a big hundred in your 100th Test and lay the foundation for yet another win in Delhi,” Gavaskar added.
Pujara, who is a one-format player, made his debut against Australia back in 2010 in Bengaluru and scored four and 72 runs in both the innings. In his 13-year career, Pujara amassed 7,021 runs in 99 Test matches at an average of 44.15, including 19 centuries and 34 half-centuries, with the best being his unbeaten 206 runs against England at Ahmedabad in 2012.
