WATCH: Will Glenn Maxwell don the wicketkeeping gloves against England as Matthew Wade tests positive for COVID-19? Check here
Matthew Wade and Glenn Maxwell
Ahead of the rival’s clash in the ongoing T20 World Cup, Australia wicketkeeper Matthew Wade tested positive for COVID-19, just 24 hours from their match against England at the MCG in Melbourne on Friday. He has minor symptons and under the rules of the tournament, he is allowed to play but he’ll travel to the ground separately. The 30-year-old tested positive on Wednesday.
However, ahead of the clash, on Thursday, Glenn Maxwell could be seen donning the wicketkeeping gloves in the nets and did some practice session with Australia assistant coach and former grade keeper Andre Borovec.

But Finch and Baliey had said before the tournament that if there’s need of another wicketkeeper, then David Warner would handle the responsibility. But it’s unlikely that Wade wouldn’t play against England. Also, Australia do not have a specialist wicket-keeper in their squad apart from Wade.

So will Glenn Maxwell do wicketkeeping against England?
Glenn Maxwell’s wicketkeeping in the nets was only for TV news cameras and even the chairman of selectors George Bailey laughed. Aussie skipper Aaron Finch said he will do the wicketkeeping if there’s any need and won’t give to Maxwell. Maxwell is an all-rounder so Aussie team will need him for bowling in the middle-overs.
Also, a team spokeman said “Yes” when he was asked if Wade was expected to play for the Aussies against England. Aussie spinner Adam Zampa was also tested positive before their match against Sri Lanka but he recovered and is expected to play against England.
Meanwhile, this Group 1 match between England and Australia is very crucial for both the teams as they have won one and lost one each. To refraim themselves from getting eliminated, they’ll do anything and so an interesting game is coming.
