India batter Prithvi Shaw has put in consistent performances in domestic cricket. But despite this, he wasn’t included in the squad for the T20I home series against Sri Lanka which started on January 3. He also wasn’t considered for the ODI series, which is slated to take place on Tuesday (January 10).

During a program on Sports Tak, veteran Indian journalist Vikrant Gupta hinted at knowing something “shocking” about Shaw that he couldn’t disclose. Former India great Madan Lal was present in the show, and he reacted to Mr. Gupta, saying: “Vinod Kambli jaisa hi haal ho raha. (His (Shaw) situation is becoming like that of Vinod Kambli).

Notably, Kambli faced success in the initial phase of his career. However, he failed to cement his spot in the India squad as he fell prey to alcohol, parties, and bad behavior.

Prithvi Shaw often shares cryptic posts on social media

Shaw has often made headlines for his cryptic posts on social media. After the exclusion from India’s squad against the Sri Lanka series, the 23-year-old took to his Instagram story and shared a reel. It contained a verse by Uzair Hijazi that read, “Kisi ne muft me pa aliya vo shaks, jo mujhe har keemat pe chahiye tha,” which translates to, “someone got for free what I wanted the most.” Fans speculated that the opener was targeting someone through his post.

He donned the Indian jersey in 2021 against the Sri Lanka series. In his international career, he has played six ODIs, accumulating 189 runs. He had slammed a ton in his debut Test match against West Indies. In five Test matches that he played so far, Shaw has scored 339 runs. Not to forget, he led the Under-19 team to victory in the ICC Under-19 World Cup in 2018.
