Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fielding coach Jonty Rhodes turned groundsman during his team’s game against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Wednesday. Rhodes lent a helping hand to the groundsman in pulling the covers as they looked to protect the pitch from the rain at Ekana Stadium. The LSG fielding coach could be seen pulling the covers with all his might.
The video of Jonty Rhodes helping the Ekana groundsmen was shared by Indian Premier League (IPL) on their official social media handles. It can be seen in the video that Rhodes immediately goes to help as the ground staff pull the covers to protect the playing area from the rain. Even after the ground staff insisted on not taking help, Rhodes continued to pull the covers with them.
Fans were left impressed with Rhode’s humility and simplicity. Twitter was filled with praiseworthy tweets for the LSG coach.

Jonty takes inspiration from MS Dhoni
With a handful of users mentioning Jonty Rhodes, the LSG coach explained the thought process behind that gesture. “Just trying to live up to my supporters signs from the 90’s which claimed that “water covers 70% of the earth, and rest is covered by Jonty”,” tweeted Jonty. Rhodes also credited MS Dhoni for his humble bahviour.
“Thank you @Anand_ac314 I was actually inspired by @msdhoni and the way he handled the incredible support he was shown at #EkanaStadium. Not just a legend, but a great man too,” tweeted Rhodes.
