A journalist asked a rather unusual question to Bangladeshi skipper Shakib Al Hasan following his side’s narrow five-run defeat in a rain-hit match in Adelaide [November 2]. Litton Das‘ half-century led to 66/0 in eight overs before rain abandoned the further proceedings for a while.
After the resumption, a wet outfield broke Bangladesh’s momentum when they lost Litton owing to KL Rahul‘s direct hit. His wicket provoked a collapse. Soon India found themselves controlling the game for a while, till Arshdeep Singh‘s saving 20 runs in the last over secured a five-run win.
Shakib had said some controversial statements before that match. However, he had a smile throughout the press-conference, after the match against India, and withheld from making such comments this time.

Shakib Al Hasan found himself on the receiving end of a journalist’s question

During the post-match press conference, Shakib found himself on the receiving end of a journalist’s question. During the rain, Shakib, Rohit Sharma, and umpires- Marais Erasmus and Chris Brown- had a long discussion before the resumption of the match. The journalist asked Shakib whether he tried to “not play” after the rain, and it led to an interesting piece of conversation.
Reporter: “Shakib, bad luck. Did you really try not to play after the rain? What was the discussion that went through?
Shakib Al Hasan: “Do we have any option?“
Reporter: “No option, but that’s the reason. Did you try to convince them?“
Shakib: “Convince whom?“
Reporter: “The umpire and Rohit Sharma.”
Shakib: “Do I have the ability to convince the umpire?“
Reporter: “Then you are discussing something about river of Bangladesh?“
Shakib: “….?“
Reporter: “You were talking about the rivers and their roles in Bangladesh? What were you talking if you could please explain?“
Shakib: “Now you’re asking the right question. So, the umpire called both the captains, told us the target and what the playing rules will be.”
Reporter: “And you accepted it?”
Shakib: “Yes.”
Reporter: “Beautiful. Thank you.“
