Kieron Pollard
During the match between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday, May 9 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, MI’s Kieron Pollard lost control of the ball while delivering. It accidently hit the on-field umpire Chris Gaffaney who was caught off-guard.
Running to bowl, Pollard lost grip of the ball and it flew off Pollard’s arm to hit Chris Gaffaney. Gaffaney was shocked as the ball hit his left hand and bumped on his stomach. He the unleased a wry because thankfully, Chris Gaffaney wasn’t hit hard by the ball. This happened while bowling to KKR’s left-hander Nitish Rana.

Kieron Pollard apologizes to umpire
After the rare scene witnessed during this match, it brought smiles on everyone’s faces. Gaffaney laughed before Pollard joined him. He went up to Gaffaney to check is he is alright after apologizing.
Chris Gaffaney was a former New Zealand cricketer and was seen relaxed after the event. Even Rohit Sharma was seen smiling at that moment. The incident must have cheered up Pollard who had a very poor season so far with the bat. Pollard had scored only 129 runs in his 10 matches with an average of 14.33 and a strike rate of 109.32. Pollard is much better than what the stats say in this IPL.
Meanwhile, it wasn’t a day for the Mumbai Indians at all. Even though Mumbai thought they can win this match after Jasprit Bumrah’s maiden five-wicket haul, Mumbai’s batting failed all. They got bundled out for just 113. KKR had scored 165 runs in their 20 overs.
As it was Jasprit Bumrah who had rattled KKR’s innings, it was Pat Cummins who got 3 wickets and conceded 22 runs.
