Rohit Sharma’s impressive captaincy was a great factor in ensuring India beat Pakistan on 14th October in the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup. Bowling changes that brought instant impact, knowing which bowler has to bowl to which batters and his field setting got Pakistan from a comfortable 155-2 to 191 all out. Despite all this, ex-England captain Michael Vaughan believes Rohit’s greatest move as captain was making a DJ not play a certain song.
While talking on the cricket show, Club Prairie Fire, hosts Adam Gilchrist and Vaughan were discussing Rohit’s captaincy style. Despite Pakistan being 155-2 in the 30th over, they lost their remaining 8 wickets for only 36 runs. Gilchrist praised Rohit’s decision making, tactical awareness and how he backs each player.
Michael Vaughan agreed with all of those points but believed Rohit Sharma’s best move as captain so far was instructing the DJ not to play “Dil Dil Pakistan”. He said, ”The best move by Rohit Sharma in this World Cup has been asking the DJ not to play ‘Dil Dil Pakistan” – if they play it then Pakistan will win so it’s a great move as most captains won’t think about it, he is ahead of time.”
Vaughan had taken a dig at the Pakistan Cricket Team’s Director, Mickey Arthur. After losing by 7 wickets to India in the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, Arthur complained that the match didn’t feel like an ICC event but a BCCI event. He had also complained about the song, Dil Dil Pakistan, not being played in the Stadium.
Rohit Sharma pays traffic fines, Police refute news of him crossing 200 kmph
On the day before India beat Bangladesh in the MCA Stadium, Pune, Rohit Sharma was in the news for the wrong reasons. He had been issued challans for over speeding on the Pune-Mumbai expressway, with reports of him crossing the speeds of 200 kmph thrice.
Highway Police have confirmed that Rohit Sharma never went above 200 kmph, with the highest speed being only 117 kmph. He was issued two challans of Rs. 2000 each, which the police said he has paid.
