In the 7th over during Pakistan’s innings, Mohammad Rizwan came into bat after Marco Jansen dismissed Imam-ul-Haq on Friday (October 27) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The first ball, Rizwan was dropped by Jansen and avoided a golden duck. The next ball Jansen bowled a short ball which Rizwan went to pull, but it edged and went for a boundary in the deep third man region.

This made Jansen angry, who went towards Rizwan and started a stare down. The Pakistani keeper told the pacer to walk back and to bowl again, but Gerard Coetzee came in between both and stopped them from fighting.

The next ball Jansen made Rizwan leave the ball as the over got over. The young pacer once again walked up to Rizwan and started sledging him this time, but the Pakistan keeper just smiled at him.

Pakistan give tough fight to World Cup favorites South Africa

Despite being one of the best batting sides of the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup, South Africa have not chased down a single total in the tournament so far. Knowing this, Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first. Captain Babar Azam justified his decision by saying the wicket looked good for batting, to which Temba Bavuma agreed.

Despite losing their openers in the powerplay, captain Babar Azam and Saud Shakeel scored half centuries and got their team back in the game. A late fight by Shadab Khan and Moshammad Nawaz got Pakistan the total of 270, but were bowled out with 20 balls left. Tabraiz Shamsi who was playing his first match of the World Cup, picked up 4 wickets while Jansen picked up 3.

Quinton de Kock gave an explosive start, hitting Shaheen Afridi for 19 runs in his first over, but was dismissed for 24 runs. Captain Temba Bavuma was dismissed 6 overs later after a poor reaction to a bouncer. Rassie van Dussen was then dismissed by Usama Mir, who came in as a concussion sub for Shadab Khan, for 21 runs. Heinrich Klassen, who was in red hot form, couldn’t last long as he was dismissed for only 12 runs.

After David Miller and Markram built a partnership of 70 runs, Shaheen Afridi dismissed him for 29 runs. Marco Jansen scored a quickfire 20, but was dismissed by Haris Rauf. Usama Mir dismissed Aiden Markram for 91 when the Proteas needed 21 runs in 58 balls.
