I had no idea he (Shami) did that. Shanaka was batting on 98. We got to be…We cannot get him out like that. Hats off to him,” Rohit Sharma said later at the post-match presentation. Shanaka remained not out on 108 off 88 balls.

Earlier, Dasun Shanaka won the toss and decided to bowl. India had gotten off to a brilliant start with openers Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma stitching a 143-run stand between them. Both got out before completing their respective centuries. While Shubman scored 70 runs, Rohit, after a long period of time played a brilliant 67-ball 83-run knock to put India in a better position.

After their dismissal, it was Virat Kohli’s show. Kohli would go on to complete yet another century. This was his back-to-back century in ODI; the last he scored on the third ODI against Bangladesh last year.
It was also his 73rd international ton; he is only behind the legendary Sachin Tendulkar who has slammed 100 international tons in his career. On way to his ton, he also became the fastest batter to reach 12500 ODI runs.

India put on a total of 373/7 in their allotted 50 overs. India, after Umran Malik’s three wickets and Mohammed Siraj’s two scalps restricted the Lankans to 306/8.
