MS Dhoni is an emotion in Chennai. He looked like a God and his devotees, the Chepauk fans, had gone into a frenzy when their Thala walked into bat and sent two balls over the boundary for maximums. The crowd just couldn’t keep their eyes off Dhoni when Chennai Super Kings (CSK) faced Lucknow Super Giants on Monday (April 3).

After scoring 12 runs, MS Dhoni became the seventh Indian Premier League (IPL) player to reach 5000 runs in the cash-rich league. He joined the list comprising Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, David Warner, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, and AB de Villiers.

Meanwhile, in the current match, the CSK openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway gave a powerful start to the innings stitching a 110-run stand, and with the help of middle-order batsmen’s quick contribution, plus Dhoni’s finishing touch, CSK posted a massive total of 217/7.

But LSG also got off to a flying start courtesy of Kyle Mayers’ carnage. He scored a quick 53 runs from 22 balls. After his dismissal, another West Indies hard-hitter, Nicholas Pooran, gave a scare to the yellow jersey with his quick 32 runs from 18 balls. Though CSK were thinking of wrapping the game quickly, LSG fought till the end but fell short of just 12 runs.

“Bowlers need to control wides and no balls or else they’ll have to play under a new captain. It’ll be my second warning and then I’ll be off (smiles),” said Dhoni after the match. CSK bowlers delivered a couple of wides and no balls during the match and Dhoni certainly was unhappy because of this.
