Bangladesh went into the 2nd Test of their series against New Zealand with the aim of winning or at least drawing, as they would win the series and gaining points in the World Test Championship (WTC). Unfortunately, things took a wrong turn as they were bowled out for only 172 runs in the first innings, with the Kiwi spinners taking 8 out of 10 wickets. Mushfiqur Rahim also made things worse as he became the first Bangladeshi batter to be given out by obstructing the field.
Coming in to bat at number 5, Rahim scored 35 runs in 82 balls. In the 41st over, he blocked a ball by Kyle Jamieson that looked like it was on its way to crash into the stumps. He blocked it and as it bounced off the pitch he pushed it away. As he pushed it, all opposing players appealed for his wicket.

The umpires, Rod Tucker and Paul Reiffel, decided to send it to the third umpire Ahsan Raza. After he confirmed that Rahim had pushed the ball, his decision was to dismiss the batter. He returned to the dressing room for 35 runs, with Bangladesh now 104/5.
Bangladesh bundled for only 172 runs, start incredible fightback
Bangladesh went into the match with a 1-0 lead. They won the toss and elected to bat first, planning to put up a big score. Unfortunately, the Kiwi spinners were too much for the Bengal Tigers. They lost their first 4 wickets with only 47 runs put up. Ajaz Patel and Mitchell Santner took 2 wickets each.

Mushfiqur Rahim and Shadat Hossain started to rebuild their innings, bringing up a stand of 57 runs before Rahim pushed the ball away. They lost their remaining 5 wickets in a span of only 67 runs, with Patel picking up 2 wickets while Santner and Glenn Phillips took 3 each. Tim Southee picked up the last wicket of Shoriful Islam.
Trailing the low score of 172, many thought it would be easy for New Zealand to get a lead but the inability to tackle spin hurt them. Bowling with the new ball, Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked up the wickets of Devon Conway, Kane Williamson and Tom Blundell. On the other end, Taijul Islam got the wickets of Tom Latham and Henry Nicholls. They are currently 55/5.
