“Watch Out” – Former India test batsman, Dodda Ganesh believes Riyan Parag will be a world class cricketer in the future

Riyan Parag

Riyan Parag and Rajasthan Royals enjoyed a stellar IPL 2022 season but eventually fell short as they lost the IPL finals to debutants, Gujarat Titans. Rajasthan Royals in their run upto the finals were helped by strong and consistent performances by a number of their players like Jos Buttler, Yuzvendra Chahal, Shimron Hetmyer, Prasidh Krishna and Trent Boult. However, one of their silent performers was Riyan Parag. A player that went largely unnoticed.

Riyan went under the radar as he didn’t get many opportunities to show his worth. Usually batting at no. 7 or 8 and hardly tested with the ball, Parag mainly hit the limelight when he took superb catches. He even set the record for joint most catches taken in a single season at 13 this year.

Kumar Sangakkara says Riyan Parag will play higher up the order next year

Riyan Parag scored a match saving 56 off just 31 against Royal Challengers Bangalore this year, helping his team put up a good total to defend. On numerous occasions he partnered with Shimron Hetmyer to put up huge totals for Rajasthan anchoring the innings towards the end. Riyan Parag also became the youngest player to score a half century in IPL history at the age of 19 back in 2019.

While Parag has been criticised for his attitude on the field, he is still a young player with tons of potential. Prompting former India test batsman, Dodda Ganesh to step up to his defence. Ganesh said on twitter, “He’ll be ready by IPL 2027. Watch out.” Sangakkara has also praised the youngster many times. Recently, he said, “Riyan Parag has got a huge amount of potential. We’ve to work him into a higher batting number next season.”
