The rivalry between India and Pakistan across all the fields is well known. As the Pakistani team landed in India after eight years for the 2023 ODI World Cup, many had predicted several controversial incidents occurring on and off the field.

Well off the field, such controversial moments created furore amongst cricket enthusiasts from both countries. Fans in India rudely behaved with the Pakistani players, as it was evident from the Ahmedabad match against India where abuses were hurled at the players, including other controversial chants.

And on Friday (October 20), when Pakistan locked horns with Australia at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, police stopped a Pakistani fan from chanting ‘Pakistan Zindabad’. In the video, uploaded by social media user Momin Saqib, the Pakistani supporter was involved in an argument with an Indian police and once the video surfaced on the internet, netizens instantly gave their verdict on the incident.

Fans erupted and gave their opinion on the matter

Social media has every type of fan. Some were quick to mock Pakistani supporters, some said as a Pakistani fan, one will indeed chant ‘Pakistani Zindabad’. They pointed out that there was no harm in chanting, and that sports unite and not divide the people. Others understood why the police reacted that way, given the intense political rivalry between the two nations.

In the match, Australia posted 367/9 in 50 overs with the help of two centuries, from David Warner and Mitchell Marsh. But after their dismissals, the Men in Yellow quickly lost the rest of the wicket, courtesy of Shaheen Afridi’s fifer.

Pakistan had placed themselves in a comfortable situation, thanks to the openers’ 134-run stand. But they lost the rest of the wickets after Mohammad Rizwan‘s wicket and lost the match by 62 runs.
