Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) did not include World Cup-winning captain Imran Khan in a tribute video on Independence Day on August 14. Khan led the Men in Green to ODI World Cup glory in 1992, which was also the first and only time Pakistan lifted the coveted trophy.

In the final, Pakistan locked horns with Graham Cooch-led England. Khan scored the most for the team with (72 off 110), while Javed Miandad (58 off 98) and Inzamam-ul-Haq (42 off 35), and Wasim Akram (33 off 18) helped Pakistan reach 249/6. Later, with the help of Wasim Akram and Mushtaq Ahmed’s three wickets, Pakistan restricted England to 227 to win the World Cup by 22 runs.

But in spite of all his achievements, PCB removed him from its social media video. The video features the other legends of Pakistan from their 1950 World Cup to the 2022 T20 World Cup when Babar Azam led Men in Green reached the final- the likes of Wasim Akram, Shahid Afridi, Javed Miandad, Waqar Younis, etc.

PCB’s social media caption read: “Making history isn’t about one day, it’s about the legends we create and the tales we script Pakistan Cricket Team – a legacy that echoes through time“.

After retirement, Imran Khan joined politics and became the country’s 22nd Prime Minister. He belonged to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party which he had founded.

After serving as the PM from 2018 to 2022, Khan was removed from his position following a vote of no-confidence. This year in May, the 70-year-old was arrested on corruption charges and was sentenced to three years in prison by the Islamabad court. And maybe that is why PCB snubbed Imran Khan from the celebratory video.
