“Really tore Rohit Sharma to shreds”- Dinesh Karthik recalls a moment

Indian veteran wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik recalled a time which hurt Rohit Sharma and tore him to shreds. Rohit is one of the best in modern-day cricket in white-ball matches but it wasn’t the case for him in red-ball cricket.

Rohit failed to score consistent runs in Tests and in 2018, he was dropped from the Test team. He didn’t see that coming and that really hurt him, as told by Karthik.

“He had almost gone down the path where he was so successful as a white-ball cricketer. He was happy doing that. And when he did come back into the Test team, you’ve got to remember in 2018, he was dropped from the Test team. He was sent back after the white-ball leg and that really hurt him. Rohit Sharma did not see that coming and that really tore him to shreds,” Karthik said in the docu-series Summer Stalemate on Cricbuzz.

However, in 2019, he returned to Test cricket and under the head coach Ravi Shastri and captain Virat Kohli, he was made the opener in the format too. Previously, he used to play as a middle-order batsman in Tests.

The swushbuckling opener then scored centuries at home against South Africa in the longest format. When India toured in England in 2021, he was able to score his first overseas ton too in Test cricket.

Now that Kohli relinquished captaincy earlier this year, Rohit has been named the regular captain of India in all formats.
