While preparing for their first game of the ICC ODI World Cup, Indian seamer Shardul Thakur met up with West Indian legend Ian Bishop. Bishop, who is currently working as a presenter in the 2023 ODI World Cup, asked Shadrul Thakur how he bowls a wobble seam or scrambled seam delivery.
Shardul, being extremely candid, replied that he doesn’t know. He showed his grip and then explained, “I just hold it like this and bowl it. I don’t do much, happens whatever happens (smiles). It is difficult to get the ball to reverse in ODI cricket. So you have to use these tactics, maybe bowl cross-seam or scrambled seam.” He then added that after pitching the ball, even he doesn’t know what will happen. He and the Bishop, both will keep guessing how the ball will move, so he said he leaves it to the hands of God.
Shardul Thakur is currently in the Indian Cricket Team for the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup. He has been a regular member of the ODI squad since 2021, where he usually plays as the 3rd pacer for the Indian team. He is usually deployed in the middle order whenever the Indian team needs a wicket. Along with his bowling, Shardul Thakur is also a very handy batter. His knocks for the Test team in famous victories like Gabba 2021 and The Oval 2021 would not have been possible if Shardul Thakur hadn’t batted the way he did. He also scored a half century in the 2023 ICC WTC Finals, which India lost to Australia.
