Weekend ended in a memorable manner for Team India when they took an assailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series against West Indies on July 24 at Port of Spain in Trinidad. The match was a thriller because it ended till the last over. India chased down the huge 312-run target with praiseworthy middle-order batting.
Half-centuries from Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson, and Axar Patel did the work for India when their side were tethering at 79/3. But soon, a 99-run stand between Iyer (63) and Samson (54) revived their innings.
At the end of 40 overs, India’s score read 212/5. They needed 100 runs in the final 10 overs. Patel, along with Deepak Hooda (33) stitched a 50-run stand in 30 balls. In the penultimate over, India needed 4 runs off 2 balls and Patel then finishing the match in style with a six.

Axar Patel wins the Man of the Match award
Axar Patel also scored his maiden half-century in this match. He gave all the credit of this performance to the experience he has got in IPL.
“It’s very special. It came at a crucial time and also helped the team to win the series,” the 28-year-old said after collecting the man-of-the-match award.
“When I went out, I aimed for 10-11 an over. We thought it could be done because of our IPL experience.
“We just needed to remain calm and keep the intensity up. This is my first ODI (series) after nearly five years. I would want to continue performing like this for my team.”
