WATCH: Shimron Hetmyer plucks one-handed screamer to send back Martin Guptill
Shimron Hetmyer
Although West Indies lost the first T20I against New Zealand on Wednesday at the Sabina Park Stadium, Kingston, Jamaica its batter Shimron Hetmyer displayed some spectacular performance on the field. He grabbed a one-handed catch at deep which gave his team the first breakthrough in the form of Martin Guptill.
Guptill, the first wicket, looked to cut a short and wide delivery from Odean Smith. The ball looked as if it would cross the ropes for a six but Hetmyer jumped up and plucked the ball out of thin air with his left hand.

New Zealand won the match by 13 runs
Meanwhile, New Zealand were asked to bat first and they had got a good start with the openers Martin Guptill and Devon Conway till both the batsmen were sent back off successive deliveries by Smith.
New Zealand were at 62/2 and then captain Kane Williamson, who was playing his first T20I since T20 World Cup in 2021, smashed 47 runs off 33 balls to steer his team’s innings.
Later, James Neesham’s quick cameo of an unbeaten 33 runs off 15 balls helped New Zealand post a total of 185/5. West Indies batters couldn’t do much as Mitchell Santner scalped three wickets and conceded 19 runs. The visitors won the match by a margin of 13 runs.
Both the countries will play three T20Is and three ODIs as part of the Caribbean trip. The two-time T20I champions, West Indies, seemed to have lots of stuffs to fix before the T20 World Cup this year in Australia. Before New Zealand, they faced India at home but lost the series 1-4.
