India played their first international match since losing the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Australia. Rohit Sharma and Co. locked horns with West Indies in the first Test of the two-match series in Dominica on Wednesday (July 12) and found themselves in a formidable position. On Day 1, the Indians were playing without any pressure and maybe that’s why batter Shubman Gill broke into a dance.
The hosts batted first but failed to put on huge runs in front of spin duo Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. With India needing just one wicket to wrap up the first innings, Gill, who was standing at the short-leg position suddenly broke into a dance with Virat Kohli and Ishan Kishan seen standing close to him.

Gill, who started as an opener in Tests, will come to bat at the No. 3 position. According to captain Rohit Sharma, Gill had approached coach Rahul Dravid to request him to change his position because as the 23-year-old used to come out to bat at No.3 in domestic cricket, he wants to do the same in international matches also.

Instead of Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal opened with Rohit Sharma

After choosing to bat first, West Indies could score just 150 runs in the first innings. The reason behind such an unimpressive show from the hosts was Ravichandran Ashwin.
The off-spinner ran through the Windies’ batting lineup to scalp his 33rd five-wicket haul in Test. Ravindra Jadeja also picked up three wickets.
As Gill said he will bat at the No.3 position, Yashasvi Jaiswal walked in to open alongside Rohit Sharma. Both have taken India to a strong position, adding 80 runs without losing their wickets. While Jaiswal scored 40, Rohit added 30 runs.
