Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI) took on Delhi Capitals (DC) in their third match of the season on Tuesday (11 April). The MI captain finally won the toss and decided to bowl first. The decision seemed to augur well for MI as they got an early breakthrough in the form of Prithvi Shaw. However, David Warner and Manish Pandey stitched a partnership before DC batters lost the plot.

After Pandey got out, Rovman Powell, Yash Dhull, and Lalit Yadav fell in quick succession, leaving Warner stranded at the other end. However, Axar Patel bailed the team out of trouble yet again as the DC all-rounder scored a brisk half-century. But the same story repeated as DC lost four wickets in the 19th over of their innings.

The hosts eventually got bowled out for 172. Mumbai Indians looked pretty happy with their effort. While the bowlers did their job, MI fielders made a couple of mistakes. The biggest one was made by Suryakumar Yadav as he dropped Axar Patel’s catch at long-on. As Patel took on Jason Behrendorff, he could not time his shot.

Surya came running in and tried to grab the ball reverse cup. However, the white cherry sneaked through the gate and hit the MI fielder above his right eye. Surya looked in pain and walked off the field immediately.

Coming to MI’s bowling, it was a top effort from the Men in Blue and Gold as they bowled out the opposition for 172. Piyush Chawla starred for MI as the veteran leggie picked three wickets in his four overs at the expense of 22 runs.

Jason Behrendorff also picked three wickets but he was a tad expensive. The left-arm pacer gave away 23 runs in his three overs. Riley Meredith (2/34) and Hrithik Shokeen (1/43) were the other two successful bowlers for MI.
