Virat Kohli gets three runs off a free hit after being bowled

The 20th over between India and Pakistan was one of the craziest one in cricketing history. The whole atmosphere was filled with the anticipation of something that can palpitate the heart.

At one point, Mohammad Nawaz bowled the most unwanted delivery, especially in the penultimate over: a no-ball. Notwithstanding the controversial no-ball, the next ball was a wide one, and the next impressed angry emotions on Pakistani’s faces.

Nawaz bowled Virat Kohli and Pakistanis made a huge appeal. Kohli and Dinesh Karthik didn’t seem to care and they completed three runs. Babar Azam and Co. were protesting and asked umpire Rod Tucker why the ball wasn’t given a dead ball.

Because the ball hit the stumps on free-hit, it should have been given a dead ball but it wasn’t. In truth, it wasn’t a dead ball.

According to ICC’s rule: “20.1.1 The ball becomes dead when 20.1.1.1 it is finally settled in the hands of the wicket-keeper or the bowler.

20.1.1.2 a boundary is scored. 201.1.3 a batter is dismissed. The ball will be deemed to be dead from the instant of the incident causing the dismissal.”.”

A batsman only gets out on free-hit when he handles the ball, hit the ball twice, obstructs the field, and runs out. Among these mentioned ways, Kohli didn’t face any, so those three runs were fair ones.

Virat Kohli and controversial no-ball

Former Australian bowler Brad Hogg questioned why the no-ball wasn’t reviewed by the Pakistanis. Fans are also saying the ball was below the waist and it shouldn’t be called a no-ball. Hogg also commented on Axar Patel’s controversial run-out. The ball didn’t look to be touching the stumps when the bails were dislodged.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli was the man of the moment when his knock of 82* off 53 balls broke the heart of the neighbors and India emerged victorious by four wickets. What else does the packed MCG crowd need than to watch one of the most insane matches in the history of this sport?
