Virat Kohli has yet to feature in a match since India’s ODI World Cup final loss at the hands of Australia. He will be donning the white jersey to play the two-match Test series against South Africa, starting December 26 in Centurion. He took a break from white-ball matches and did not feature in the T20I and ODI series against the Proteas.
Due to a personal emergency, he went home and missed the intra-squad practice match in Pretoria. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), however, has confirmed the talismanic batter will be back before the start of the Boxing Day Test match.
Ahead of his first international assignment since the World Cup final loss, Kohli shed light on the importance of Test cricket. He called Test cricket “everything”, and that he was thankful for playing Test cricket for his country.
Test cricket, for me, is the foundation of the game. It's history. It's culture. It's heritage. It's everything.Kohli said in a video uploaded by Star Sports
He added:
It's a different feeling from anything else that you've experienced. As an individual, and as a team, the job satisfaction of having played a long innings and winning your team a Test match is a special feeling. I am a traditionalist, so playing in whites, and playing Test cricket is everything.
