India’s rising star Ishan Kishan opted out of playing the upcoming two-match Test series, starting December 26 at Centurion against South Africa. At first, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revelaed that Kishan won’t be playing the two Tests due to personal reasons.
Later, the Indian Express reported that Kishan has decided to opt out of the series due to mental fatigue. The 25-year-old has been constantly on the road since January this year but has not regularly featured in the playing XI of Team India.
As fans got to know the real reason, they dug out an old video of Kapil Dev. In 2020, Dev talked about the importance of international matches and urged youngsters to take a break from the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) instead of the international games because as per Dev, the latter gives a different satisfaction.
If you think there is burnout then don’t play IPL. I mean that’s not representing your country. If you think you are burned out then you can obviously take a break during the IPL.Kapil Dev had said back then
He added:
IPL gives you exposure. And I don’t want to see anybody’s pocket (suffer), what they are making and all. I think when you represent your country, it should be a different feeling.
