In the Qualifier 1 of IPL 2022, Gujarat Titans is taking on Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday, May 24 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. RR’s Yashasvi Jaiswal decision to walk back made the umpire lift his finger up.

Gujarat Titans have won the toss and opted to bowl first. Rajasthan Royals’ openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler entered the field to bat but the former, who had been in good form in the recent matches got dismissed after scoring just 3 runs.

Yashasvi Jaiswal played 8 balls and scored 3 runs and on the 6th ball of the 2nd ball, a ball from Yash Dayal sent the youngster back. Dayal bowled a length ball around off on the length shaping away and Jaiswal attempted to drive but only managed to edge it behind. Wriddhiman Saha, he GT wicketkeeper caught it and their side appealed but the umpire stayed still. But Jaiswal turned and started to walk.

Umpire Bruce Oxenford wasn’t sure whether Jaiswal had edged the ball or not. But the batsman’s decision made the umpire lift his finger. Match footage then displayed that Yash Dayal looked surprised when the umpire took time to give Jaiswal out.

Meanwhile, in the match, Rajasthan Royals got off to a slow start. When Jaiswal walked out, the incident must have raised eyes about the standard of umpiring in a cash-rich league like IPL. Because of this, teams go upstairs for DRS.

Notably, Delhi Capitals had been knocked out of IPL against Mumbai Indians because of the wicket of Tim David. The umpire didn’t give the batter out and DC skipper Rishabh Pant also had to face criticism because he didn’t take the DRS. And because of this very decision, Tim David, who would have got dismissed by zero runs when on to score a match winning knock.
