England all-rounder Moeen Ali made his Test comeback as the veteran was included in England’s squad for the Ashes series. However, Ali has failed to impress with both bat and ball. The 36-year-old played the first Test wherein he claimed three wickets and scored 37 runs. Ali was dropped from the second Test owing to a finger injury.
The off-spinner then made a comeback in the third Test. Ali could not do here much either, claiming two wickets and scoring 26 runs. However, in the absence of England’s frontline off-spinner Jack Leach, Ali has gotten an extended run and will be playing the fourth Ashes Test.
Moreover, the England all-rounder is touted to bat at No.3 for England with Ollie Pope ruled out. Pointing to this turn of events, Iceland Cricket took a brutal dig at the Englishman claiming Ali getting so much preference is because of his PR.
“We want to have a PR team like Moeen Ali’s. Hasn’t played first-class cricket for 2 years and has become England’s frontline spinner in an Ashes series, and now he has worked his way up the batting order from no. 7 to no. 3 with virtually no runs,” read the tweet from Iceland Cricket.
Fans blame CSK for Moeen Ali’s special treatment!

This tweet from Iceland Cricket attracted some interesting reactions from the fans. While a few agreed that Moeen Ali has been enjoying an undue advantage, a few defended that cricketer saying he did not ask for any favors.
Meanwhile, one user dragged the IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) into the discussion. The user claimed that as Ali plays for CSK, he gets a lot of publicity, and hence this preference from England’s team management.
Check out the reactions.
While Ali continues to face slander for his non-performance so far in the Ashes series, the 36-year-old will have a chance to prove his critics wrong when England take on Australia in the fourth Ashes Test at Old Trafford. Ali will be expected to play the aggressor since he is being promoted to No.3.
