Former West Indies skipper Denesh Ramdin announced his retirement from international cricket on Monday. He played his played his last match for West Indies a T20I in December 2019.

He has played 74 Test, 139 ODIs and 71 T20Is. He made his debut in Test agaist Sri Lanka in Colombo in July 2005. He played a role in West Indies’ T20 World Cup victory in 2012 and 2016.

“It is with great pleasure that I announce my retirement from international cricket,” Ramdin wrote on Instagram. “The past 14 years have been a dream come true. I fulfilled my childhood dreams by playing cricket for Trinidad and Tobago and the West Indies. My career afforded me the opportunity to see the world, make friends from different cultures and still be able to appreciate where I came from.

“Even though I am announcing my retirement from international cricket, I am not retiring from professional cricket. I will still be playing franchise cricket around the world…” Ramdin added.

“I take this opportunity to thank everyone who made an impact on my 14 year career, particularly my family, my beautiful wife Janelle, and our kids for all the sacrifices you had to make for me to be away for long periods of time during my international career,” Ramdin concluded.

But the wicket-keeper batsman will continue to play franchise cricket. However, he failed to find a team at the upcoming edition of Caribbean Premier League despite representing Guyana Amazon Warriors, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and Trinidad Knight Riders from 2013-2021.

He led his country in 17 matches, 13 Tests, three T20Is and and ODI when he replaced Daren Sammy in 2014. Jason Holder replaced him in 2015.

Meanwhile, another West Indies batter, Lendl Simmons also announced his retirement from international cricket on Monday. His CPL franchise Trinidad Knight Riders posted a congratulatory message for him which declared his announcement.
