One of the biggest modern-day comparisons in Cricket is inevitably that of Virat Kohli with Sachin Tendulkar. There is constant debate about who out of the two is the better batsman. The one record Virat Kohli fans actively want him to break is that of Sachin’s 100 centuries.

Virat Kohli stands at 76 international hundreds, with his most recent one coming against the West Indies in the 2nd Test in Trinidad, which was also his 500th international appearance for India. Many often believe Virat Kohli is the true successor to Sachin Tendulkar.

While it is true that the two cricketers have batted in different eras and played in the same conditions for just 5 years, the comparison persists. West Indies fast-bowling legend Curtly Ambrose who has faced Sachin Tendulkar many times in cricket is completely against drawing a parallel between Kohli and Tendulkar.

Talking to Rev Sports, Curtly Ambrose spoke about how he thought it was unfair to compare the two. He explained, “I wouldn’t want to compare both players. Sachin Tendulkar was a great player and achieved just about everything in cricket. You can’t take away from his cricketing knowledge and the way he played. I’m not the kind of guy who would like to compare.”

In many ways, Ambrose’s statement holds true since the two batters have played in a completely different cricketing world. It would be unfair to constantly draw comparisons between Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar given the environmental differences the two have faced.

However, fans tend to draw parallels and with Virat Kohli breaking almost every record held by the Master Blaster, no one can blame them. For example, in the upcoming ODI series, Kohli stands a chance to leave behind Sachin in terms of being the fastest to 13000 ODI runs.
