On Saturday (September 2), spectators and millions of cricket watchers were desperate to witness one of the greatest rivalries of cricket after a long time – the rare India-Pakistan clash. The match took place at the Pallekele Cricket Stadium in Kandy, Sri Lanka.
And though India played their innings and scored 266 runs, Pakistan did not even face a delivery, for rain played spoilsport, and the match was called off with both the teams sharing a point each.
Now India are facing Nepal on Monday (September 4) in Kandy and again, there are heavy chances of rain. As per Accuweather, there is more than an 80 percent chance of rainfall, and thunderstorm is also predicted.
Sri Lanka Cricket Board doesn’t usually conduct matches in September due to monsoon but because of the tussle between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Sri Lanka had to co-host the Asia Cup and as a result, rain is hindering the completion of some of these matches.
So what will happen if India-Nepal match washes out due to rain in the 2023 Asia Cup?
Nepal lost their first match to Pakistan on August 30. And if rain washes out their match against India, they will receive one point, meaning they will no longer progress to the second round. On the other hand, India, who already have got one point after their match against Pakistan, will receive one more point.
Indian fans can heave a sigh of relief because even if rain hampers the progress of the match, Rohit Sharma and Co. will share a point with Nepal and in total, they will have two points. By bagging two points, they can play in the Super 4.
