Meanwhile, ‘Mr Dependable’, Joe Root took the team to victory when they had slumped for 69/4. First with a 90-run stand with new captain Ben Stokes and then another 120-run stand with wicket-keeper 120-run stand. He is playing his first Test after stepping down from captaincy. He scored and unbeaten century, 115 off 170 balls and England chased down a challenging 277-run target successfully. Now the host, England, are leading the three-match Test with 1-0.

Joe Root is receiving praises from every corner and former Australian captain Mark Taylore gave the highest compliment. He said that Joe Root can break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 15,921 runs (in 200 games) if he stays healthy.

“Root has a minimum of five years left in him, so I think Tendulkar’s record is very achievable. The root is batting as well as I have ever seen him bat over the last 18 months to two years. He is in the prime of his career, so there is 15,000 runs-plus for him if he stays healthy,” Taylor told Sky Sports.

Root is the second player from England to have reached 10,000 runs in Test after former England skipper Alastair Cook, who quit international cricket in 2018 after scoring 12,472 runs.
