Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli
Widely regarded as the greatest cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar celebrated his 50th birthday on Monday (April 24). As wishes poured in from all corners of the world for the Master Blaster, several of his teammates have revealed interesting anecdotes they shared with Tendulkar.
Many have taken to Twitter to share breathtaking moments in history and also the emotional speech Tendulkar made during his farewell in 2013 after the Test series against West Indies. After that event, in the dressing room, Virat Kohli, who is widely regarded as Tendulkar’s successor, presented a teary-eyed Tendulkar with a sacred thread that his late father gave him. Though Tendulkar took it for a while, he couldn’t keep it with him forever as it was a “priceless” thing for Kohli. However, that gesture from Kohli was one of the emotional moments for Tendulkar.
“I was sitting in one corner alone with a towel on my head and wiping tears and I was really emotional. And at that time, Virat had come to me and Virat gave me the sacred thread that his father had given him,” Tendulkar had said in a chat with Graham Bensinger last year.
“And I kept that for a while and then returned that to him again. I said, ‘This is priceless and this has to stay with you and no one else. This is your property. And you should have it till your last breadth.‘” Sachin then added that he gave that sacred thread back to Kohli but this is something which “will be always there in my memory,” Sachin had said.

Ricky Ponting ends Sachin Tendulkar vs Virat Kohli debate
When Tendulkar called time on his cricketing career, Virat Kohli was expected to follow in his footsteps and take Indian cricket to great heights. Kohli has not disappointed as he is on the cusp of breaking Tendulkar’s 49 ODI centuries. The Delhi-born batter also stands second on the list of most centuries in international cricket, having slammed 75 of them while Tendulkar stands atop with 100 tons.
Now in sports, there is always debate surrounding who is the GOAT (Greatest of all Time). Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting said Tendulkar is technically the best batsman he has ever seen. And about the Master Blaster’s comparison with Kohli, the former Aussie skipper said: “Let’s wait until Virat’s career is over, and then I think it’s it’ll be a much fairer comparison.”
