Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill was one of the star players in the Test on Australian soil in what was called one of the most epic Test matches of recent times; his game was one of the reasons that helped the team snatch victory from the mighty Australians. His knock of 91 runs left cricketing world in awe on day five of the fourth Test at the Gabba in Brisbane.

The 22-year-old played played a number of cricketing shots throughout the innings to keep India in the chase. After Rohit Sharma‘s dismissal for seven runs, Shubman Gill (91 off 146) put-on a 114-run second-wicket stand with Cheteshwar Pujara.

With an unforgettable back-foot punch off Josh Hazlewood and cutting and pulling confidently Mitchell Starc’s bounce and his three boundaries in Starc’s over made commentator remark whether it was a live match or highlights package. But he couldn’t stay at the crease to complete his maiden century when Nathan Lyon’s wide-ish delivery in the 398th over made him edge it and got caught at first slip by Steve Smith.

“If you go back and watch that innings again, you will notice that not once did I pull Cummins. The pull shots were off Starc, keeping in mind the shorter square boundary from that side. I felt that even if I got a top edge, it would clear the fielders and get me boundaries because he was bowling at a good pace,” Shubman Gill had recalled the Gabba Test.

After a fighting draw in the third Test at Sydney, India then went on to clinch the Gabba Test by three wickets with the help of Cheteshwar Pujara’s 56-run knock and Rishabh Pant’s unbeaten 89-run knock.
