29-year-old Mukesh Kumar is having a sensational cricketing year. After being picked up by the Delhi Capitals for a massive 5.5 crores INR in last year’s auction and making his IPL debut, the Bengal pacer has now received his Test debut cap for Team India. India are in the Caribbean for an all-format series with 2 Tests, 3 ODIs, and 5 T20Is scheduled to be played.
Mukesh Kumar has had a stellar first-class career while playing for Bengal and was a decent contributor for the Delhi Capitals in the 2023 edition of the IPL. Though it is his maiden game, Mukesh Kumar is not new to the Indian set-up.
He has previously been a part of India’s squad for South Africa, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand but did not get a game. Most recently, he was also a part of the Indian squad for the WTC Final as a reserve pacer. Now, Kumar received his Test debut cap for the 2nd India vs West Indies Test as Shardul Thakur was not available.
Mukesh Kumar made his IPL debut for Delhi Capitals
The Delhi Capitals bought Mukesh Kumar after a fiery bidding war in the mega auction, the pacer who was priced at 20 lakhs was roped in for a whopping 5.5 crores. In ten matches, he has picked up 7 wickets at an economy of 10.52. In his first-class career so far, Mukesh has picked 149 wickets from just 39 matches at an average of 22.55. He also has 6 five-wicket hauls to his name.
With his previous inclusions in India’s squad, Mukesh Kumar was always under the selectors’ radar and has rightfully earned his maiden Test call-up earlier this month. Now, after putting on impressive performances for Bengal and India ‘A’, the talented pacer is all set to don the India jersey.
