Why do modern-day pacers fall prey to recurring injuries? Wasim Akarm gives stern remark

The legendary Pakistani pacer Wasim Akram shared his thoughts surrounding the injuries of modern-day fast bowlers. In recent times, India’s pace department has also been struggling with recurring injuries which subsequently make them miss important tournaments.
Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah hasn’t played a game since September last year and recently underwent surgery, which means he won’t be a part of the Indian squad for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final, starting June 7. Deepak Chahar‘s condition is also the same but he recently appeared in a game for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). That is why, Wasim Akram gave some advice to these pacers which may help them to stay in shape for a long time.
Akram first asserted that fundamental exercise like running plays a massive role in a fast bowler’s workout. “I went to the gym only in the final three years of my career. I played 10 seasons for Lancashire and would have played around 100-150 first-class games. Here you play these pacers two first-class games and they won’t get out of bed for six days. Their bodies are not used to it,” Akram said in an interview with Sportskeeda.
The 56-year-old then urged the pacers to bowl long spells in the nets to remain fit and stay in rhythm because bowling only three overs doesn’t help in getting ready for the game. He then gave another piece of advice to the bowlers to play four-day cricket as well. “T20 cricket and IPL is here to stay. But when you play four-day cricket, your pace will increase as you bowl long spells and chances of injury will be lesser,” he added.

Wasim Akram feels modern-day bowlers don’t produce many variations
Akram feels that the reason behind modern-day bowlers not producing many variations when the plan doesn’t work could be their not practicing enough in the nets. “Bowlers today don’t make variations. I don’t know if their brain doesn’t work,” Akram said.
His tips to produce more variations include changing the run-up, and bowling from a different angle, and one can even go around the wicket, but one needs to practice for this. He feels today’s bowlers go numb after being hit so much and couldn’t able to plant doubt in the batters’ minds.
