Why Shreyas Iyer did not come out to bat after Ravindra Jadeja’s dismissal in 4th BGT Test?
Iyer did not come to bat even after Jadeja's dismissal. Instead, wicketkeeper batter KS Bharat walked in to bat at No.6. It's still unclear whether Iyer will come out to bat at all in this Test match.
Shreyas Iyer
India batter Shreyas Iyer did not come out to bat after Cheteshwar Pujara’s dismissal on Day 3 of the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. On Sunday (March 12), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released a statement, revealing that Iyer complained of pain in his lower back after the third day’s play at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He has now gone for the scans.
“Shreyas Iyer complained of pain in his lower back following the third day’s play. He has gone for scans and the BCCI Medical Team is monitoring him,” the BCCI said in a statement. The statement did not anything about whether Iyer will come out to bat down the order or not. After Pujara’s dismissal, Jadeja walked out to bat at no.5.
Iyer also did not come to bat even after Jadeja’s dismissal. Instead, wicketkeeper batter KS Bharat walked in to bat at No.6. It’s still unclear whether Iyer will come out to bat at all in this Test match.

Shreyas Iyer has been struggling with back issues for a long time
It seems Iyer has been struggling with back issues for a long time. Prior to the BGT Test series, he missed the three-match ODI series against New Zealand and was then sent to the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy in Bangalore, and went on to miss the first Test in Nagpur, but made his comeback for the second Test in Delhi.
Talking about the ongoing match, Usman Khawaja‘s 180 and Cameron Green’s 114, Australia have put on 480. India also started well with the openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. While the former failed to convert a good start to a huge knock, Gill went on to slam his second Test ton and maiden one at home.
Yesterday, Virat Kohli slammed his first half-century since January 2022 in Tests and he will start his innings from 88* after lunch, while KS Bharat will start from 25*. India have reached 362/4 easily and are trailing behind 118. If wickets don’t fall quickly, then this match is going to end in a draw.
India have retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2-1 and if the match ends in a draw and Sri Lanka fail to whitewash New Zealand 2-0, then Rohit Sharma and co. will successfully reach the ICC World Test final, where Australia have already secured a berth following their victory in the Indore Test.
