Trying to hit Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Glenn Maxwell, Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya lost his bat on Thursday, May 19 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Choosing to bat first, GT openers Shubman Gill and Matthew Wade walked out to open the innings but soon Gill lost his wicket after a stunning one-handed catch by Glenn Maxwell. Matthew Wade was wrongly dismissed of LBW because of ultra edge error which made the Australian batter fuming over the decision.

Now Hardik was brought at the crease and he started scoring decent runs. But during the 10th over, Hardik Pandya lost his grip of his bat. He had decided for a slog-sweep off Glenn Maxwell. But in that process, he lost his grip on bat and it flied towards the square leg. The on-field umpire also stood there as the bat hit him.

The incident only only surprised fans but also wife Natasha as she murmured ‘what just happened’.

Since DC has better run rate if they win their next match against Mumbai Indians they will reach the playoffs. But if MI win the match then RCB will qualify for the tournament.

Whereas Gujarat Titans are the table toppers with 20 points. They were the first team to qualify for the IPL playoffs.

We had just a par score. The ball was stopping here and there and we were happy with 168. We wanted to give Lockie the opportunity, but the wicket was holding a bit. So we wanted to go for bowlers who bowled slower ones and took pace off the ball. We pulled things back in the middle but the way Maxwell played in the end made us feel we were 10 runs short. We are on the right tack and we just need to look after losing back to back wickets,” said Hardik Pandya at the post-match presentation.

The learning is to make sure we don’t do it in the playoffs. It is always good to score runs. The way the boys are gelling and the way we are going, it is a learning for the players. I don’t know about Saha’s injury. He was feeling his hamstring and it was a precautionary measure to keep him off the field,” he added.
