Australia Test skipper Pat Cummins has been in fine form in the Ashes series and is the second highest wicket-taker with 15 scalps. He not only shone with the ball but played a match-winning knock of 44* runs in the first Test.

Australia emerged victorious in the first two Tests but couldn’t pull off the same in Headingley where Ben Stokes and Co. won by three wickets. As both sides are gearing up for the fourth Test at Manchester, there are doubts about whether the Aussie management will rest Cummins to manage his workload.

Cummins is not only a pacer but a captain too and he is also the only Aussie bowler to have played the three Ashes Tests and the World Test Championship (WTC) Final in England. If Australia gives him rest for the fourth Test, then he can turn more formidable in the fifth Test if England wins the fourth one.

But the legendary Glenn McGrath believes if Pat Cummins feels right and is not tired, then the management shouldn’t rest him just for the sake of giving the pacers rest. Australia are managing the workload of the players, especially of the fast bowlers. Pacers like Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Scott Boland have been rotated.

If he’s fine, feeling good, enjoying it, switched on, and still mentally focused, I don’t like having a rest for the sake of having a rest,” McGrath said as quoted by cricket.com.au.

He then praised England’s Stuart Broad and James Anderson for their work ethics as they have played 165 and 181 Tests respectively to prove why Cummins shouldn’t rest. McGrath, who scalped 500 wickets off 124 Tests and even played six back-to-back Test matches against England in 1997, believes that if Cummins is not feeling physically and mentally exhausted, he should definitely play the fourth Test.

Meanwhile, the third Ashes Test will be played from July 19 to July 23 at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester. Australia are leading the five-match Test series 2-1.
